Large format documents
For scanning of formats larger than A3 up to a maximum length of 1066 mm (the width of scanner´s optical system is 1016 mm) the great Canon SmartLF Ci40c scanner is used. Together with supplied scanning software it makes a great tool for digitizing.
Examples of documents for large format scanning
- Project documentation, technical drawings, architectonic drawings
- Maps, pictures, posters
- Flyers, banners...
Scanning can be done in three different color settings - black and white (1-bit), grayscale (8-bit) and full color pallete (24-bit). Primary output formats are TIFF, JPEG and PDF. Optical resolution can be set between 100 and 600 DPI. Scanned pictures can be post-processed - software cleaning, picture rotation and crop and other picture enhancements.
Which color setting to chose?
- 1-bit - is chosen in cases when the original document is black and white or in grayscale. Black and white scanning is also useful in cases where the original document is in worse shape (ie. grainy, dirty etc.) - those unwanted artifacts will not be visible unless they are very dark (almost black). Different color settings would make those artifacts more visible.
- 8-bit - grayscale scanning is chosen in cases when the original is also grayscale or color and those colors do not have any further meaning. Grayscale scanning can produce more detailed images in cases when the original image is of bad quality. 8-bit grayscale is able to capture more detail than black and white scanning, on the other hand it is much more complicated (sometimes even impossible) to completely clean the image.
- 24-bit - full color pallete brings best result regarding image detail. 24-bit color is chosen in cases when it is important to preserve as much detail as possible.
Scanning equipment
Canon SmartLF Ci 40c is a high speed scanner for CAD and GIS aplications. With its 600 DPI optical resolution it can capture even very fine lines and other detail in the picture with extreme clarity.
