Common format documents
Scanning of common formats (all sizes up to A4) varies according to type and condition of the paper. Either it can be scanned with a pass-through scanner or on a flatbed scanner.
Pass-through scanners with built-in document feeder
Advantages of a pass-through scanner
- Scanning speed.
- Both sides of paper can be scanned at once.
- Built-in document feeder can take up to hunderds of papers.
- The scanner works automatically after inserting a batch of papers into feeder.
The advantage of a pass-through scanner is mainly its speed – it can scan both sides of a document during one pass of a paper. The advantage of built-in feeder is obvious, because the person who manipulates the scanner can prepare batches with hundreds of papers.
Scanners with scanning surface (flatbed scanners)
Advantages of flatbed scanners
- Regardful of paper.
- Possibility of scanning thicker materials.
- Can scan books, sealed documents etc.
- Enables scanning of historically valuable documents.
The advantage of a flatbed scanner is mainly in variability of scanner´s capabilities to scan atypical formats. The flatbed scanner is also regardful of the document. Working with archive documents is mostly limited to flatbed scanning, because a through-pass scanner´s feeder could damage the document.
